Fluted spines of whipped cream, perfectly spaced birch trees, bottomless powder, epic cold dumps… simply the best powder skiing on earth! Add a culture steeped in history and tradition, excellence, kindness and respect and you have arrived at the bottom of your soul.
Japanese powder is legendary… and for good reason.
Join me in Japan’s premier Steep powder skiing locations of Hakuba & Myoko in the Japanese Alps. This trip is designed for advanced backcountry skiers who want to maximise their powder skiing and to be immersed in Japanese mountain culture. Imagine warm sake or creamy Supporo, onsen soaking and amazing Japanese cuisine.
Delivering the best powder experience is knowing the complex interactions between snow, weather & terrain choices. As a highly trained ACMG member in the ski guide specialty stream, with intricate knowledge of Hakuba & Myoko’s terrain, I know exactly how, when & where to ski the goods.
I only offer small group guiding, which means 6 people or less. This means, more powder per person, a group that is nimble and manageable through the terrain. It means a more personable experience for everyone.
Every tour is designed to maximise your powder turns. Generous use of lifts mean more vertical per day. It’s all about sneaky resort laps on a big powder morning, slack country hot laps a few skin strides outside the resort boundary or big vertical resort to resort tours.
From your first contact to you first face shot, to the time we say goodbye – the person that corresponds to you, also sets your skin track, picks you up for dinner and helps you buy your train ticket back to Tokyo. I am your personal Japan guide from start to finish.
Eleven meters of cold fluffy powder – the majority falling in two months – and a predictable snowpack means steep skiing is the norm.
The terrain is different than anywhere you’ve skied before…
… you’ll find truncated spurs, fluted spines, shoots and long erosive gullies. Forget classic coniferous forest, this place is a deciduous tropical jungle with strangler vines, red-faced monkeys and Kamoshika.
Simply put, I can deliver you steep powder skiing safely and consistently.
I have spent years exploring the numerous & intricate zones of both Hakuba and Myoko. This abundance of choice provides the goods in any daily conditions. Whether it’s slack country hot laps, big alpine bowls, or perfectly spaced birch trees for storm skiing, selection means perfection…
… and Japan sure does deliver.
